Happy Days

My sister-in-law and feisty fun filled friend with whom I shared many hours of laughter was captured perfectly by my Nephew Jonathon, so down to earth - she would not have wanted a hagiography.

“I (Margaret) have fought the good fight – I have finished the race henceforth there is a crown laid up for (Her).
2 Timothy 4: 7. I felt that a special light had gone out, but then thought of this quote “Death is not extinguishing the light: it is only putting out the lamp because the dawn has come” Tagore. A comforting word.

Although not seeing much of Margaret in latter years I remember with great affection the fun and laughter we shared when young particularly when Michael and I met up with my brother and her.

We often played Shove Halfpenny – Margaret when the men went to get the drinks would cheekily say lets chalk a few more strokes in they will never notice, when they came back we would be laughing so much, they would say what’s up but didn’t seem to twig. The other trick she used to play was finish John’s wine, and when he said ‘I thought I had more wine left’ she would wink at me and say innocently with a straight face, ‘you drank it’.

Christmas Charades was another fun time when Ladies always played the men. Together we would think up the longest film, book or song title, and would be hysterical at their efforts. Example of one song, although milder than some: “Does your chewing gum lose its flavour on the bedpost over night”

Thanks Margaret for all the fun and laughter for those nights, when our husbands had gone off to bed, we would try to put the world to right – no subject was off bounds – many politicians must have felt their ears burning. Several times we were surprised by the dawn chorus.

Jonathon spoke of Margaret's love of animals. She loved Siamese Cats - I would love to put Cats Boogie by Jacquie Lawson on here (my technical ability not up to it) She would have loved it. If you are a member – look it up.
